We encourage you to come early or stick around a little longer to explore some of the things that make Texas so special. And you got to try breakfast tacos!

San Antonio: This is the city where I (Ryan) grew up, and the more I travel the more I appreciate it. Beyond the classic staples of the Alamo and Riverwalk, San Antonio has a lot to offer– especially with its vibrant food, cocktail bar, coffee, and brewery scene. It's hard to explain what makes this city different, but you'll know it when you experience it! Check out a detailed list of our suggestions here.

Austin: The music scene here is unmatched within the state, with a ton of great rock venues, honky tonks, record stores, and more. That's why the call it the "Live Music Capitol of the World"! The comedy scene in recent years has exploded as well. We could write an encyclopedia of our favorite taco places to eat, let alone the million of other ethereal food options. A lot of great outdoor activities too. Definitely worth a stop if you have the time.

Fredericksburg / New Braunfels / Lockhart / the Hill Country: We highly recommend venturing beyond Wimberley and the Backbone to drive through the hill country of Texas. There’s a lot of cool things to see and do, and the rolling landscapes can be goregeous.

West Texas: Feeling adventurous? The Big Bend, Terlingua, Alpine, Fort Davis, and Marfa regions of West Texas are astoundingly cool, beautiful, and relaxing. Be advised though that it’s about a 7 hour drive each way from San Antonio and Austin, so you would want to allow adequate time for driving. This is personally one of our favorite areas of Texas. If you bring your passport, you can even cross into the town of Boquillas, Mexico from Big Bend National Park for lunch and a beer! Let us know if you plan to go out this way, and we’ll send detailed tips/suggestions for lodging, restaurants, and sites.

Mexico: Flights to Mexico from San Antonio and Austin tend to be affordable. Mexico City, Merida, Oaxaca, Yucatan cenotes, the baja peninsula, crystal clear Quintana Roo beaches, and many other great destinations are just a short flight away-- so definitely worth taking advantage of.
