Flying to Texas: We highly recommend flying into and out of either San Antonio International Airport or Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.. Both are conveniently located 50 minutes to an hour away from the San Marcos, Wimberley, and Canyon Lake area where the Devil's Backbone Tavern and accompanying lodging options are located. Each city offers a lot of fun things to do, rental car/Turo options, and great places to stay as well if you have an extra day to spare or plan to extend your trip.
Dallas and Houston offer two airports each, though the drive time increases to 3 to 3 1/2 hours each way. These could be options if you find a great fare, don't mind the additional driving, or have time for an extended trip. Again, we would emphasize San Antonio and Austin over these options for the convenience and uniqueness of both locales.

For our friends and family in Europe: direct flights to San Antonio and Austin are rare. We reccomend conducting multi-city searches through major US-airline hubs such as New York, Atlanta, Boston, and Miami-- and then looking for flights to San Antonio and Austin from there. We also highly reccomend Norse-Airways as a trans-Atlantic roundtrip connection.

Getting to Wimberely & San Marcos: There’s really one easy way to go about this, and two additional options with some caveats:
Rent-a-car: This is the best option, and we highly encourage friends and family to collaborate/car-pool if possible to cut down on the cost. San Antonio and Austin both offer great rental car options on the Turo app.
SuperShuttle: This is a service that offers roundtrip airport pickup/drop off from Austin and San Antonio to the address of your choosing in the San Marcos area. We have never used this service, and our limited research has found mixed reviews. This might be useful, assuming one has a carpool or other ride arranged for the event– though we would still recommend a rental car over this option.
Bus: Flix offers bus services from San Antonio and Austin to San Marcos. Prices and times can vary, and this would require the added cost of a rideshare from either of the SA/ATX airports to the bus station. Similar to the above, this only really works if you are able to coordinate a ride/carpool to the Devil's Backbone from San Marcos or the surrounding area.

Getting to the venue: It will be necessary to drive to the venue from wherever you decide to stay. Parking is readily available on site. We strongly encourage friends and family to plan ahead, collaborate, and carpool if possible.
Rideshare apps NOT an option: Please note that rideshare options such as Uber or Lyft from the venue are extremely limited to non-existent. While it might be possible to obtain a ride from the city of San Marcos, the venue has emphasized that it's extremely rare and/or not possible to secure a ride from the tavern itself.
